Flynn Group of Companies, North America’s fastest growing and leading building envelope contractor is looking for a Manager, IT Infrastructure & Operations to work from our Mississauga location.

Here at Flynn, you’ll have the opportunity to work for a growing company, delivering IT application solutions to support business operations in 35+ locations across North America.  The IT team at Flynn is growing and we need an experienced leader to manage our stable of commercial off the shelf (COTS) applications.  This role is responsible for the procurement, implementation, and on-going support of our COTS software.  The role will also be responsible for the implementation of updates, upgrades, and replacements for these applications to deliver on the IT operational plan.  As a technical leader you’ll manage the technical foundations while supporting our continued growth.  We’ll give you the chance to work in a technologically challenging and fast-paced environment, to enhance your abilities while pushing your limits. Our Current Tech Stack

This role will be responsible for our ERP, Microsoft Dynamics SL, our AP automation tool, Hyland Perceptive, our asset management system, HardCat, our enterprise collaboration and communications platform, Office 365/SharePoint, and our HR, Payroll, Recruiting and Learning Management systems. You’ll work closely with our business analysis team and our Manager, Mobile & Web Applications to manage integration work between COTS applications and our internal, custom-built applications. 

A Day in the Life

  • Application Management
    • Build business cases with a forecasted budget for software projects
    • Work with business analysts to define detailed SMART requirements
    • Lead vendor/solution selection activities (experience in ERP, HCM/HRIS, payroll and other enterprise systems considered an asset)
    • Assist in contract negotiations and service level agreement design
    • Work in partnership with business and technology stakeholders to run the application environments (Production, UAT, QA, Development)
    • Leverage strong technical skills and insights in operating systems, database systems, and application integration technologies in every day decision making
    • Define and drive automation of processes, application heath checks, monitoring, reporting, along with improvement and documentation of operational processes
    • Coordinate and manage Change, Incident, and Problem management for COTS applications
    • Coordinate, manage and execute server OS and application patching, and related activities
    • Collect and analyze feedback from customers, stakeholders, and other teams to shape new features and improvements
    • Define the product strategy and roadmap; responsible for managing and guiding a backlog of enhancement requests
    • Scope and prioritize activities based on business outcomes and customer impact
    • Experience running buy vs. build cost benefit analysis
    • Participate in vendor/product selection process for COTS application modernization activities


  • Support
    • Lead the team providing efficient day-to-day level 2 and level 3 support for COTS applications; Triage, prioritize and resolve production support incidents while driving teams to investigate production issue root causes, provide quick tactical workaround and preventive solutions
    • Raise and manage development tickets in JIRA arising out of support
    • Provide proactive and preventative maintenance to reduce the risk of outages
  • Development
    • Manage application changes, both code and config. Co-coordinating deployments and facilitating post implementation verifications
    • Ensure the team is following modern agile practices.
    • Focus on strong, automated (where possible) testing practices throughout the software value chain
    • Extend awareness of risks associated with application changes and their potential impacts, incorporating risk planning and mitigation.
    • Develop sustainable processes as they relate to IT and COTS application development, maintenance, and deployments
    • Take various project requirements and organize them into clear goals and objectives and break down large projects/processes into sub-projects and sub-processes that could be executed by other teams or partners.


  • Architecture
    • Work with the VP, IT and other IT stakeholders to assess technical architectures & frameworks required to meet project & production requirements and to ensure technical solutions are aligned with Flynn’s IT operational plan, and security requirements
    • Contribute to enterprise architecture design, activities, and documentation
    • Ensure COTS application security
  • Management
    • Manage a team of technical and support professionals delivering our applications
    • Program management of multiple in-flight projects
    • Manage licensing of all COTS software, (cloud, on-premises, and subscription)
    • Manage information system and application risks, participating as an important member of the business continuity plan and emergency response team
    • Align team members to a common, agile vision within an environment of accountability
    • Assist the VP, IT in the budgeting process
    • Manage the delivery quality of external partner teams and resources where required

What We Are Seeking

  • University degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field
  • You must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy; a big-picture vision, the drive to make that vision a reality, and a genuine passion for the results.
  • Strong engagement in maturing organizational capabilities
  • Familiarity with agile project management methodologies and modern PM tools
  • Prior history as a development lead, IT PM or business analyst will be helpful
  • Proven track record of delivering software projects, with demonstrated success in launches and end-to-end execution of change management programs
  • Practical experience with system integration particularly as it relates to common COTS applications
  • Experience with vendor selection and vendor management
  • Familiar with concepts of Change Management and driving adoption of process improvements and supporting applications
  • Strong business analysis skills, including root cause analysis
  • Solid budget and financial analysis skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills including influencing, negotiating, collaborating, and consulting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
