Specialist, Health & Safety

Job Summary

This position will be based out of our Saskatoon location, and requires travel throughout Saskatchewan. Health and Safety Specialists are responsible for the instruction and implementation of the Health and Safety management system of the company through advising, coaching and educating all Flynn Employees on best practices. As a member of the Risk Management team, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining safety processes and programs in the advancement of the Flynn Safety culture.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the safety requirements of operational construction sites and equipment
  • Conduct safety evaluations of Flynn project sites using documentation and standardized processes
  • Guide sub-contractors to adhere to required safety standards in keeping with Flynn policy/legislation
  • Identifying potential risks and safety hazards during a project through involvement throughout the job life cycle (estimate, pre-mobilization, construction and autopsy.)
  • Performing incident investigations as per the company’s health and safety programs.
  • Maintain a conducive working relationship with all management, superintendents, project managers through education and giving practical on site application options
  • Assisting with the communication and implementation of the company’s claims management and return to work programs.
  • Be proactive in recommending changes to improve the safety programs
  • Participate in the development and implementation of safety training programs
  • Conducting new worker safety orientations and other required training programs as needed
  • Report writing and maintaining of all required documentation
  • Attending and facilitate monthly safety meetings as required

Desired Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary education and/or training in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • NCSO preferred
  • CRST or CRSP designation is an asset
  • 3 years’ experience in a safety role within a construction environment
  • Experience in metal architectural panels, curtain walls and roofing is an asset
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Expertise in Fall Prevention, Fire Protection, and Claims Management.
  • Knowledge and practical experience in incident investigation
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills
  • Computer literate in Windows applications; Microsoft Office; SharePoint
  • Presentation skills in large groups is expected
  • Strong communicator
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Team attitude with a willingness to learn

 

Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening may be required on worksites.
