Payroll Tester

Position Profile

The Payroll Tester is responsible for supporting and maintaining SAP Employee Central Payroll (ECP) for the organization. They will provide advisory services, technical guidance and support to internal customers on the operation and maintenance of SuccessFactors Employee Central Payroll. One of the main responsibilities includes staying up to date with current system releases, developing and implementing strategies to address problem areas with the Payroll solution including implementing continuous improvement strategies. Individuals must work well in a team setting to meet objectives in a timely manner; however, individuals also need to be able to perform effectively with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities of the Payroll Tester include:

System Support and Payroll Service Desk

  • In-depth knowledge of payroll legislation, taxation, and processes.
  • Knowledge of reading and interpreting Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA)
  • Management and triage of issue/defects related to payroll and ensuring day-to-day issues are addressed/resolved.
  • Provide time sensitive support to the payroll team during weekly pay processing.
  • Assisting subject matter experts in developing system documentation for ECP and providing proper training aids to assist with change management.
  • Provide impact analysis and regression testing for proposed changes to ECP
  • Conduct system testing for changes, system upgrades and new implementations.
  • Develop functional specification documentation.
  • Collaborating with the payroll team and other business functions to design/maintain processes that will improve overall effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Work with stakeholders to intake, document and resolve SAP SuccessFactors issues, improvements, upgrades or changes tracked through our work management tool Jira.
  • Maintaining and updating ECP Tables

Project Management, Optimization and Payroll Business Process Owner

  • Responsible for delivering plans implementation of new SAP SuccessFactors releases with a holistic view of the business.  
  • Creating and maintaining a business process for users to submit enhancement suggestions related to payroll.
  • Maintain positive relationships with appropriate HR, IT, Finance, Management, and Administration teams.

Data Quality and Security

  • Evaluating data quality issues and determining methods to improve system accuracy.
  • Ensure payroll related data  is handled as per Flynn’s data protection policy and applicable laws.
  • Evaluating security requests, obtain appropriate approvals to maintain accurate roles.

Skills/Qualifications of the Payroll Tester include:

  • Minimum 1 year of SAP or SuccessFactors experience
  • Minimum of 3 years’ supporting Payroll
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Human Resources Management, or related discipline required.
  • Previous experience working in a unionized environment.
  • Ability to provide direction to payroll administrators and influence stakeholders to ensure that solutions are effective and in keeping with the overall HRIS strategy.
  • Strong customer service focus with demonstrated skills in supporting users to assist in addressing issues and concerns.
  • Advanced skills in Excel required.
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills are required.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to learn and use a variety of software applications such as JIRA, Confluence, Zendesk.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, multi-project environment with shifting priorities, and the ability to reassess and reprioritize competing business needs.
