Shop, Lead Hand

Position Summary

In this role as a Manufacturing Lead Hand you are responsible for ensuring you and your team are actively engaged in workplace safety, producing to high quality standards, and maintaining production efficiency to be competitive and successful in the marketplace. As Lead Hand you are deemed as a leader in your area of expertise and are required to direct your team, assign work, provide training, correct quality issues, read drawings, work instructions, schedules, productivity reports, and work with a variety of hand and power tools, equipment, all related to sheet metal fabrication.

Responsibilities

  • Follow detailed assembly instructions, processes and procedures.
  • Provide employee training on specific tasks to ensure that procedures are followed and meet all quality requirements.
  • Apply basic problem solving skills to ensure stable operation of the work environment.
  • Report problems and/or concerns with quality, processes, equipment, materials and labour to the Foreman.
  • Identify and support continuous improvement efforts with Foreman.
  • Sustain, support, and drive lean manufacturing and 5S activities.
  • Participate as an active member of the production assembly team and assembles products.
  • Review, Check and Sign Off on Quality Inspection Sheets.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area to facilitate manufacturing functions.
  • Ensure materials required for next day’s production are ready and positioned for workers to fabricate or assemble or crate.

What We Are Seeking

  • High school diploma and 5 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as Architectural Drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through oral and written communications.
  • Ability to analyse and solve problems.
  • Ability to work with others collaboratively.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Must be computer literate with sound working knowledge of data base software/word/ Excel.
  • Experience leading teams or projects strongly desired
  • Ability to stand, walk, reach with hands, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move 50 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move 75 pounds.

What We Offer

  • Monday-Friday, 40 hours/week, overtime hours required on an as need basis.
